Getting out of the Perfection Trap

A sprout in a lightbulb.
In less than a week, I've watched a strange and miraculous thing happen with my creative thinking - I've watched it growing. Yes, a shift is happening thanks to simply having the goal to make something each day. What has really pushed me is knowing that it doesn't have to be something great, it just has to be something. Apparently high standards, or perfectionism if you will, had been holding me back much more than I suspected. Well, I'm glad to announce that my inner critic has been bound and gagged for the remainder of 2011 and all facets of my creative ability, from writing to painting to trinket-making, are waking up like it's spring!

I have been an avid reader of artists' blogs for a long time, particularly those who confront the challenges and myths surrounding creative productivity. This article, titled "The Remarkable Magical Power of Creating Every Day", had been at one of my favorite sites (A Big Creative Yes) for ages, but I had not noticed it until now. To spare you the same forehead slap, I hope that you'll rush over and read it if you're considering a "Make Something Every Day" project even the tiniest little bit.

  1. Isn't that an awesome lesson to learn?! So cool that you've already gotten so much from the experience!
